Xin Ma is an Associate Professor, Principal Investigator, and Ph.D. Supervisor at Southern University of Science and Technology. He is a recipient of the National High-Level Young Talent Program and serves as the Executive Deputy Director of the SUSTech Robotics Research Institute–Jining Joint Research Center.
He received his B.Eng. and Ph.D. degrees from Dalian University of Technology in 2011 and 2017,respectively. From 2017 to 2019, he conducted research on medical robotics at the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. From 2019 to 2021, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Purdue University, USA. From 2021 to 2025, he served as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Professor Ma has led a number of research projects, including Hong Kong GRF projects, Hong Kong ITF projects, the National Natural Science Foundation of China Young Scientists Fund, the Guangdong Provincial General Program, and Guangdong–Hong Kong Joint Funding for Technology and Innovation. He has published more than 100 papers in internationally recognized journals, including IEEE Transactions on Robotics, IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, Soft Robotics, IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems, IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, and the Journal of Automation Science and Engineering. He holds one granted U.S. patent, three pending U.S. patents, and 14 granted Chinese patents.
His research achievements have received multiple honors, including the National Gold Award at the 9th China International College Students’ Innovation Competition, the Best Paper Award at IEEE IRAC, the Best Paper Award Nomination at IEEE ReMAR, and the Best Paper Award Nomination at IEEE IRAC. He currently serves as a Young Editorial Board Member of SmartBot, Robot Learning, and Journal of Zhejiang University-SCIENCE A. He is also a member of the First Committee of the Digital and Intelligent Neurosurgery Professional Committee of the Guangdong Medical Education Association.
